New Delhi, 4 October (IANS) On the birth anniversary of Great Freedom Fighter Shyamji Krishna Verma, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday recalled how, 56 years after India’s independence, Verma’s ash was brought back from Geneva, in which the final request of Freedom Fighter was honored.
Taking it on social media, PM Modi shared a thread of posts through the official ‘Modi Archive’ handle, which said in memory of Verma’s life and heritage.

On August 22, 2003, CM, Modi visited St. George Cemetery in Geneva, Switzerland, where he formally received the ashes of Verma from Vile de Jenway and Swiss government, the post said.
In another thread, ‘Modi Archive’ highlighted how Narendra Modi organized a grand ‘Virejali Yatra’, ‘a formal procession, in which Verma’s ash Kalash traveled to Gujarat in 17 districts including South Gujarat, Central Gujarat, and Saurashtra.
The ash was taken into a specially designed vehicle, named ‘Virejali-Vahika’, who attracted thousands of young Gujaratis, who had a large number of, who came out to pay their honors to the revered freedom fighter.
