New Delhi, September 30 (IANS) In a rare and symbolic gesture, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Chitrananjan Park, the cultural heart area of the Bengali community to attend Durga Puja celebrations and immersed himself in the spirit of Maha Ashtami.
The journey marked by spiritual reverence and cultural comradery was seen as a moment of national unity and cultural inclusion.
PM Modi reached the prestigious Kali Bari temple complex in the evening, where he prayed to Goddess Durga and performed the traditional evening aarti amidst the rhythmic beats of Dhak and incense.
The presence of the Prime Minister in the pandal organized by CR Park Durga Puja Cooperative Society attracted thousands of devotees and audiences, many of whom described the moment as “historic”.
After being moved on social media, PM Modi shared his feelings: “Today, on the auspicious occasion of Maha Ashtami, I went to Delhi’s Chittaranazan Park to attend the Durga Puja ceremony. Chittaranan Park is known for his strong relationship with Bengali culture.
The Prime Minister’s visit was not only a spiritual offering, but also a subtle political outreach. With the West Bengal assembly elections in 2026, PM Modi’s participation in one of the most prominent Bengali festivals in Delhi is seen as a gesture of goodwill to the Bengali Diaspora, many of which maintain strong relations with their home state.
Security in South Delhi with traffic diversity and SPG protocol was tight.
Despite the logical challenges, the atmosphere remained atmosphere with cultural performance, food stalls and the festive enthusiasm with thematic decoration.
Local residents, many of whom are descendants of East Pakistan refugees, expressed pride and pleasure over the Prime Minister’s visit.
As the presence of Modi echoed through the mantra pandal of “Jai Ma Durga”, Modi’s presence served as a reminder that festivals are not just rituals – they are bridges that connect diverse communities, confirm India’s pluralistic soul.
