PM Modi praises Divyastra mission and Agni 5 missile maiden flight test

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today announced the development of ‘Mission Divyastra’ – an indigenously developed, highly advanced weapons system that could transform the country’s geopolitical standing. The Agni-5 MIRV missile, developed by the Defense Research Center DRDO after more than a decade, made its maiden flight today.

The new weapon system uses multiple warhead independent warhead (MIRV) technology to ensure that a single missile can deploy multiple warheads at different locations. Government sources said the technology is currently owned by a handful of countries and India has joined some countries after testing it.

Sources said the system is equipped with indigenous avionics systems and high-precision sensor packages to ensure that the re-entry vehicle reaches the target point within the required accuracy.
