New Delhi:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today announced the development of ‘Mission Divyastra’ – an indigenously developed, highly advanced weapons system that could transform the country’s geopolitical standing. The Agni-5 MIRV missile, developed by the Defense Research Center DRDO after more than a decade, made its maiden flight today.
The new weapon system uses multiple warhead independent warhead (MIRV) technology to ensure that a single missile can deploy multiple warheads at different locations. Government sources said the technology is currently owned by a handful of countries and India has joined some countries after testing it.
PM Modi posted on .”
We are proud of the DRDO scientists for the Divyastra mission, which was the first flight test of the indigenously developed Agni-5 missile using the Multiple Warhead Independent Target Reentry Vehicle (MIRV) technology.

Sources said the system is equipped with indigenous avionics systems and high-precision sensor packages to ensure that the re-entry vehicle reaches the target point within the required accuracy.
