PM Modi participates in Durga Puja Festival in the nucleus of Bengali community of Delhi

Justin, 30/09/202530/09/2025

New Delhi, 30 September (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid the Almighty Devi Durga around ‘Sandiwal’ or on Tuesday, 30 November around the bend of the Augrible-Nawami at Chittararanjan Park Kali Temple in South Delhi.

He offered worship to Kali Devta in the temple and then participated in ‘Sandhya-Arati’ or evening prayers amid ‘Dhaka’ and bells tampering. There are two forms or aspects of Kali and Durga Shakti. Randiwal is the time when Goddess Chamunda revealed to kill the demons, some experts say. Time is also associated with Lord Ram during the fight against Ravana.

The residents of Chittaranjan Park did not remember an opportunity earlier when any Prime Minister of India paid the journey in his area during the auspicious period of Durga Puja. Both the site and time were of importance for the Prime Minister’s visit.

According to some, it was elected before the assembly elections in West Bengal next year, at a time when the Bharatiya Janata Party is on the back leg on the alleged harassment of Bengali speaking persons, taking them as Bangladeshi intruders.

Chittaranjan Park was founded as an EPDP (east -displaced people from East Pakistan) colony over 60 years ago, later ‘patriotism’ was converted into honor of Chittaranjan Das. The region was provided for housing families, who had to flee their homes in East Bengal due to violence after the partition of India.

Chittaranjan Park Kali Temple was established in 1973, which was initially built as the Shiva temple. In 1984, it was expanded to include temples for Goddess Kali, Radha and Krishna. It has since become an important religious-cultural center, where worship is held regularly, in which special celebrations manipulate Kali Puja. Durga Puja ceremony began here in 1977.

For the last 31 years, Gautam Hori, a resident of Chittaranjan Park, could not remember such an opportunity on Tuesday. He was present close to the site viewed by the Prime Minister. Soumya Bandopadhyay, a senior journalist who has covered politics and government in New Delhi since 1984, could not remember any incident of the Prime Minister who attended the Durga Puja festival in localism.

However, he said that he has seen former President Pranab Mukherjee participating in Shyama Puja in New Delhi Kalibri. Significantly, the then President of India, Saravapalli Radhakrishnan, was also a witness during the “Early 1960s early 1960s” inauguration during a visit to the capital, who inaugurated the Durga Puja ceremony at Temple Marg Kalibari.

In Chittaranjan Park, the Kali temple and the surrounding area are regularly scanned, and the safety protocol is placed almost for a fortnight. In the last weekend, the residents were asked to remove the vehicles parked on the road during the PM’s visit, and the street-side hawkers were instructed to stay away for a brief period on Tuesday. The region is a heavy leg witness with a ban on vehicle entry during the festival period.

The Prime Minister’s Security Protocol, including the Special Conservation Group, inspected and assessed the area before his visit. Preparations began at the end of last week, in which the residents received a message about a potential “Kali temple hopes on the Ashtami of the VVIP movement” on their WhatsApp group. This informed the residents that they should notify all the parks of the parked vehicles to connect a small stretch and arterial roads of the main bipin Chandra Pal Marg.

This message was sent by Rajiv Nag, Secretary, Kali Mandir Society. Initially, some residents admitted that additional security measures were being taken in view of at least three programs in the prescribed area to celebrate their Golden Jubilee this year. The cumbersome population in Chittaranjan Park is leading to an increase in construction, and mushrooming of many open market complexes resulted in a decrease of parking sites. This message complained about inconvenience due to the restriction of open spaces in the huge colony, especially in times of opportunities such as Durga Puja.

But the mention of the “VVIP movement” gave rise to further questions, finally revealed that it was none other than the Prime Minister of the country. Welfare associations and officials, after accepting something, finally provided a solution by requesting schools in the area to open their premises for parking vehicles for a few hours.
