PM Modi meets members of the 1996 World Cup winner Sri Lankan cricket team

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday interacted with members of the 1996 World Cup winner Sri Lankan cricket team and said that Vijay captured the imagination of countless sports lovers.

PM Modi is on a two -day official visit to Sri Lanka.

PM arrived here to signed bilateral discussion on Friday night and several major treaty between the two countries.

Later on Saturday, he met members of the Sri Lankan World Cup winning side, who defeated the Australian team led by Mark Taylor by seven wickets in the final in Lahore.

“Cricket Connect! He was happy to interact with members of the 1996 Sri Lankan cricket team, who won the World Cup that year. This team captured the imagination of countless sports lovers!” Write PM on ‘X’.

Members of the members of the winning side including Kumara Dharmasena, Arvinda de Silva, Sanath Jayasuria, Chaminda Vas, Yupul Chandana and Marvan Atapattu were presented.

“PM @narendramodi interacted with members of the 1996 Sri Lankan cricket team who won the World Cup that year. There are some glimpses from his conversation here,” wrote in the official account of the PM, posting images of conversation.

In the final played at the Gaddafi Stadium on 17 March, Sri Lanka, led by Arjun Ranatunga, chased Australia’s 241/7 for the loss of just three wickets with Arvinda, in which Arvinda scored an unbeaten 107.
