PM Modi meets family of former Bihar Chief Minister Kapri Thakur

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday met the family of former Bihar chief minister late Kapuri Thakur, who was awarded India’s highest civilian award ‘Bharat Ratna’ last month “prize. The famous socialist leader’s family members, led by his son Union Sabha member and JD(U) leader Ram Nath Thakur, met at his official residence at No. 7 Lok Kalyan Marg Prime Minister.

“It is a pleasure to meet the family of Bharat Ratna awardee Jananayak Karpoori Thakur ji. Karpoori Thakur ji has been the savior of the backward and poor sections of society and his life and ideals will continue to inspire the nation.” Ram Nath Thakur ji Seal said he thanked the Prime Minister for the honor on behalf of his family, the state of Bihar and the downtrodden, Dalit and backward communities.

“This is a joyful occasion for us, just like the second Diwali. Cookies are popped and sweets are distributed,” said Ranjit Kumar, grandson of the former chief minister. He said the Prime Minister called them the day after the award was announced. He added that he spoke to every family member and invited them to come to Delhi to meet him.

“I feel like the prime minister is part of our family,” he said. Karpoori Thakur, fondly known as Jan Nayak, served as the Chief of Bihar from December 1970 to June 1971 and December 1977 to April 1979 Chief Minister of the state.
