Raipur, Nov 1 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday cut the ceremonial ribbon to inaugurate the majestic new Chhattisgarh Assembly building in Nava Raipur, marking the state’s 25th foundation day with a blend of cultural pride and modern governance.
He also unveiled a life-size statue of former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna recipient Atal Bihari Vajpayee and planted a sapling under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, strengthening environmental commitment.
Flanked by Governor Raman Deka, Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker Raman Singh, PM Modi lauded the complex as a symbol of Chhattisgarh’s progress since its formation in 2000.
Addressing a gathering of MLAs, tribal artists and citizens, he said, “This Assembly is not just a building; it is the heartbeat of democracy, rooted in tradition and moving towards innovation.”
Spread over 51 acres in Nava Raipur Atal Nagar, the Rs 324-crore complex replaces previously used temporary spaces – a private school and government offices.
Designed on the theme “Dharti Dhurandhar”, it combines Chhattisgarhi heritage with state-of-the-art sustainability. The assembly hall, with a capacity of 200 seats (expandable after delimitation), has a ceiling carved with rice grains and leaves, honoring the state’s “rice bowl” identity.
Tribal motifs adorn the doors and walls, celebrating the art of Bastar and local craftsmanship. Environmentally conscious from foundation to end, the complex boasts of solar panels, rainwater harvesting and lush green spaces.
The building consists of three blocks, a 500-seat auditorium, parking for 850 vehicles and integrated facilities – allopathic, homeopathic and ayurvedic hospitals, banks, post offices and canteens – catering to the needs of the public on the lower ground floor.
Chief Minister Sai commented, “This is the people’s assembly, open, transparent and inclusive.”
As the celebrations, part of Chhattisgarh’s silver jubilee, resonated with Vajpayee’s legacy – he carved out the state from Madhya Pradesh, PM Modi paid tribute to his predecessor.
“Atal ji’s vision gave identity to Chhattisgarh, today this building is carrying his dream forward.”
School children waved tricolor and clapped at the unveiling of the bronze statue set amidst beautiful gardens.
The event coincides with earlier inaugurations – Rs 14,260 crore in road, health and energy projects – and a touching interaction with 2,500 children who have been cured of heart defects.
As the tricolor was hoisted atop the dome, Chhattisgarh stepped into its next quarter with a legislative beacon that blends heritage, democracy and stability.
