PM Modi congratulates Seychelles' new President Patrick Herminy

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday (October 12) congratulated Patrick Herminy on being elected as the President of Seychelles and expressed confidence that time-tested relations with India will gain further momentum during his tenure.

“Hearty congratulations to Dr. Patrick Hermini on his victory in the Presidential elections in Seychelles,” Modi said in a post on Twitter.

He said, “The waters of the Indian Ocean are our shared heritage and nurture the aspirations and needs of our people. I am confident that during his tenure as President, our time-tested and multidimensional relations will deepen and gain further momentum.”

Modi said, “My best wishes to him for his future tenure.”

Opposition leader Herminie won the Seychelles presidential election, defeating incumbent leader Wavel Ramkalawan in voting held on Saturday (October 11).

Hermini represents the United Seychelles Party, which led the country for four decades before losing power to Ramkalawan’s Linyon Democratic Seselwa Party in 2020.
