A small plane crashes on a major highway in the southeast Massachusetts Both people on board the plane died and another person on land was injured amid rain and strong winds early Monday, officials said.
In videos taken by people in passing vehicles, smoke can be seen rising over Interstate 195 from scattered, burning debris. The highway was closed in both directions near the accident site Dartmoutha city about 50 miles (80 kilometers) south of Boston, the state Transportation Department said.
Massachusetts State Police said in a statement that they were not aware of any survivors on the plane, adding that it may have been attempting to land at New Bedford Regional Airport. However, officials said it did not appear the pilot provided flight plans or passenger details to the airport.
