Patna, Nov 1 (IANS) Union Commerce Minister and senior BJP leader Piyush Goyal on Saturday launched a scathing political attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and the Grand Alliance during his address at NDTV’s Bihar Power Play Conclave organized ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections.
The Union Minister, while defending the NDA’s development agenda and employment strategy for Bihar, described the opposition’s promises as hollow and described their leadership as a symbol of failed political experiments.
Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi and Grand Alliance chief ministerial candidate Tejashwi Yadav are “symbols of failed experiments”, the BJP leader said in response to the RJD leader’s allegation that the NDA has copied his election manifesto.
He said, “Those who fail in exams keep crying all the time. The Grand Alliance is a failed experiment. Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav are symbols of a failed experiment.”
Union Minister Goyal also hit back at the Grand Alliance’s promise of providing 2.5 crore jobs and cited budgetary constraints.
“We have promised one crore jobs. This includes government and private jobs. It is a practical promise and it can be fulfilled. We have made a plan on how to bring tech companies here and how we can create industrial parks here,” he said.
“Is it wrong if someone from Bihar goes to Japan?” he asked, challenging the notion that migration equals loss.
He claimed that the young generation of Bihar is increasingly preferring to live in the state, as it now offers increasing employment opportunities.
He said, “Today’s youth are becoming job creators. Resources are being developed here and this is changing the scenario.”
Union Minister Goyal credited the “double engine government” led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for ushering in transformational growth.
He highlighted the infrastructure progress, noting that Patna, once plagued by congestion and lawlessness, now boasts of flyovers and is on the verge of getting a metro system.
He commented, “Nobody would have imagined this a decade ago.”
The Union Minister also pointed to Bihar’s industrial progress, citing the setting up of 14 ethanol plants and the launch of the Makhana Board as examples of value addition.
“Infrastructure brings opportunities,” he said, referring to new highways, rural roads and housing schemes that have improved livelihoods across the state.
Commenting on employment, Union Minister Goyal hit back at the Grand Alliance’s promise of 2.5 crore jobs, calling it financially unrealistic.
“We have promised one crore jobs – both government and private – and we have a roadmap to attract tech companies and create industrial parks,” he said.
Addressing concerns over the rising crime rate in Bihar, Union Minister Goyal said more FIRs have been filed due to better law enforcement.
He concluded, “Earlier, people were afraid to report crimes. Today, women feel safe walking after dark and farmers are earning more.”
