Pickball court opened in Bermullah: A step towards fitness and community engagement

North Kashmir took an important step in promoting fitness and inclusive recreational activities with the inauguration of its first pickle court at SSM College, Parsapora in Baramulla district.

The facility was inaugurated by the Secretary of Nujat Gul, Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council. It was developed in collaboration with the World Health Sports (WHS) co-installed by Verjaj Singh.
This initiative highlights the growing speed around the development of ground level sports infrastructure in the valley.
Speaking at the inauguration, Nujat Gul said to Annie, “Pickle is not just a game – it is a platform for healthy stay, community engagement and stress relief. We are eager to bring this opportunity to Baramulla and expand such an initiative in the entire region.”
A fast growing racket game, which combines elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis, a rapidly growing racket game, being welcomed as accessible games for people of all age groups-from school children to senior citizens.
Highlighting the importance of the initiative, the administrator of SSM College, said, “We are honored for hosting the first pickle courts of North Kashmir. This facility is a step towards nurturing the culture of fitness and teamwork between our students and local community.”
Viraj Singh, co-founder of WHS and a prominent partner in the project, said, “Our aim is to offer the way of new sports that support physical and mental welfare, especially in areas where such opportunities are limited.”
Players participating in the inaugural matches echoed similar feelings. One of a student and players described the game as a healthy, fun way to “fit and defeat stress”.
Local player Manzoor Ahmed also praised the move, saying, “These courts provide a fresh change for youth like us. The game can actually focus the younger generation and keep away from negative distractions.”
In recent years, increasing concerns over the consumption of intoxicants in the youth in the region have instigated a call for better entertaining infrastructure. Initiatives like Picball Court are being seen as an important tool in steering youth for positive lifestyle options and productive use of energy.
The launch reflects a comprehensive vision of J&K administration and local institutions to promote the well -being of the community through inclusive sports and fitness programs. (AI)
