Srinagar, Nov 2 (IANS) Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday said physical fitness events like ‘Kashmir Marathon’ prove that a society can overcome its fatigue and harness its strengths in a disciplined manner through physical and mental fitness and emotional stability.
The Lieutenant Governor was addressing the award ceremony after the successful completion of the second edition of Kashmir Marathon here today. All awards in this marathon were won by Kenyan athletes.
The LG said, “Such international events provide us an opportunity to showcase our handicrafts and handlooms besides promoting tourism.
“Jammu and Kashmir is a land of communal harmony and peace. I am grateful to PM Modi for the historic transformation of this land of modernity and spirituality into Jammu and Kashmir, which today is moving ahead driven by strong passion and determination.”
He said, “I am sure you will cherish and watch the change and transformation and enjoy our hospitality. I call upon the people of Jammu and Kashmir to utilize this international opportunity to showcase our unique tradition and culture. Showcase our arts and crafts.”
He informed that participants from 11 foreign countries have taken part in the marathon.
The LG said, “I am proud to say that within just two years, the Kashmir Marathon has become an international event. Let me tell our foreign friends that Jammu and Kashmir is the crown jewel of India and has a rich heritage and culture.”
He also said that he is hopeful that ‘Jammu Marathon’ will also be started soon and these international events will provide economic support and wider reach to our tourism.
LG said, “I am sure that in the coming days this marathon will become the most beautiful marathon destination in the world. I once again thank all the winners, runners and participants of Kashmir Marathon 2025.”
He thanked the Tourism Department for the efficient organization of the program.
