To add intrigue to the fight, Shashikant Prasad, representing Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraj Party (JSP), hopes to make a dent in the traditional vote bank of both the NDA and the grand alliance.
| Name of candidate | team |
| Shyam Rajak | Janata Dal (United)-JD(U) |
| Gopal Ravidas | Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation – CPI-ML(L) |
| Shashi Kant Prasad | Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) |
The Janata Dal (United) (JD-U) is contesting the elections as part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) along with the BJP, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) and Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM). Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation [CPI-ML (L)] is aligned with the Mahagathbandhan, which includes the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress, and the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP).
Meanwhile, the Jan Suraj Party (JSP) led by Prashant Kishor is independently testing its political strength in the upcoming elections.
Phulwari, one of the 243 assembly constituencies of Bihar, falls under the Patliputra Lok Sabha seat and is reserved for the Scheduled Caste (SC).
The contest will likely be shaped by Phulwari’s diverse voter base, which includes Ravidas, Paswans, Yadavs and Muslim communities, as well as its deep historical and religious ties.
Phulwari Sharif is known as a center of Islamic learning, associated with Sufi scholars and revered pilgrimage sites.
Election profile of Phulwari
| Year | total voters | Male | Woman | third gender | service voter | Postal vote |
| 2020 | 3,64,523 | 1,92,158 | 1,72,353 | 12 | 518 | 442 |
| 2015 | 3,25,312 | 1,75,960 | 1,49,338 | 14 | 403 | 496 |
The constituency has seen a steady increase in the number of registered voters, reflecting Patna’s growing suburban population and urban migration.
In 2015, Shyam Rajak won a landslide victory by a margin of 45,713 votes. However, in 2020 the tables turned and Gopal Ravidas defeated him by 13,857 votes, indicating the growing influence of CPI-ML among Dalit and backward communities.
The mix of caste, religion and political allegiance in Phulwari makes it one of the most unpredictable seats in Bihar. Analysts believe that Rajak’s return, Ravidas’s grassroots connect and the Jan Suraj factor could create a triangular contest in the recent elections.
