Petrol pumps in Manipur closed due to ‘donation demand’ from various groups

Petrol stations operating in Manipur’s valley districts have decided to close for three days from Friday due to what it termed “financial crisis” and “requests for donations from various organizations”.

Retail store representatives made the announcement after an emergency meeting on Thursday, saying any additional pressure during this period would lead to further closures.

On February 10, representatives informed Chief Minister N Biren Singh that they may be forced to close retail outlets if financial needs or donations exceed their ability to pay.

In their letter to CM, retail store representatives highlighted the challenges they face, including declining sales, significantly reduced profit margins (almost 40-50%) and “excessive donation requests on all fronts.” organize”.

“Due to the current crisis, we are facing a decline in sales and our profit margins have dropped significantly by almost 40% to 50%,” the letter said.

“Our employees have been under constant threat and some have been kidnapped for ransom,” the letter added.

“Some of our retail outlets (petrol pumps) have been asked to close if we are unable to meet their needs,” it informed.

Representatives explained that with their current incomes, it has become difficult to manage expenses such as employee salaries, company fees, insurance and income taxes.

“In view of these challenges, the delegates requested the Chief Minister’s assistance in overcoming the financial crisis,” they added.
