Hyderabad, October 6 (IANS) Long traffic jam was seen on the second day on the second day on Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway 65 as people returned to Hyderabad after Dussehra holidays.
A large number of vehicles were rolled into Chitala, Chutuppal and Panthangi toll plazas. There was about 4 km long traffic jam from Chitala to Pedakparthi. Officials said the traffic jam on this stretch was due to the construction of a bridge.
Vehicles were moving at the speed of snails in Choutuppal and Dondumalkpur. The police was trying to clean the jam.
After Dussehra holidays, people of the holidays were returning to Hyderabad from their home towns in various parts of Telangana and neighboring Andhra Pradesh. Officials said that construction of bridges, flyovers and road widening works at some points was also added to the jam.
At the Pantangi toll plaza, the authorities opened additional toll booths to ensure rapid withdrawal. Police and traffic personnel were also seen on the ground to clean the jam.
Similar scenes were seen on the national highway on Sunday. Many families returned on Sunday as the educational institutions were reopened on Monday.
The number of vehicles increased from the beginning of Monday as many employees went back to Hyderabad to attend their duties after the celebration.
Buses were also crowded along with passengers returning to Hyderabad. Officials said that it may take a few more hours to clean the traffic jam on the national highway.
A large crowd was seen at the bus stations in Andhra Pradesh as the families went back to Hyderabad. Nandigama bus stand in NTR district was with passengers.
The buses of both Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) and Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) were filled with capacity.
Buses reaching Hyderabad from various cities of Telangana including Khammam, Warangal, Karimanagar, Nizamabad and Adilabad were also crowded.
Due to the huge congestion, passengers also had a difficult time to book tickets in private buses.
