Kolkata, 21 September (IANS) On Sunday, on the occasion of Mahalya, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated several Durga Puja pandals in the state, some physically and others, and then insisted that in an atmosphere of unity, peace could be strong in the country.
Inaugurating a community puja pandal in South Kolkata, the Chief Minister said, “Peace can only happen when communal unity persists. Otherwise, peace cannot be strong.
Speaking on the occasion, it said that the central government is making a long claim about the next generation goods and service tax (GST) returns, for which the actual credit goes to the state government, which will have to suffer financial losses due to reforms.
“Nevertheless, we are not complaining because the sufferings of the common people have reduced to an extent due to development. I am sure that BJP ruled states will be given compensation for indirect damage. But we are denying our share in central funds in Bengal. Due to GST reforms, the financial loss of West Bengal will be called in a toon of Rs 20,000 crore.”
The Chief Minister started the inauguration of his community puja pandal on Saturday, and on the first day, he highlighted the issue of alleged harassment of Bengali speaking migrant workers across the country.
He continued to attack the BJP on the issue on Sunday and said that the BJP did not have the right to ban language. “In Bengal, no one is harassed to speak in any language other than Bengali. Then why will Bengalis be harassed in other states to speak in their mother tongue?” The Chief Minister questioned.
On Sunday, Chief Minister, Trinumool Congress General Secretary and party Lok Sabha member Abhishek Banerjee, along with Abhishek Banerjee, also attended the inauguration of the worship version of the party organ in Bengali, ‘Jago Bungalow’ (Wake Up Bengal).
Speaking on the occasion, Abhishek Banerjee claimed that a few years ago, an attempt was made to float a false story that the celebration of Durga Puja was not allowed in Bengal. “But today, under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee, Durga Puja of Bengal is inscribed in the UNESCO representative list of the abstract cultural heritage of humanity,” he said.
