new england patriots Quarterback Drake Maye is dealing with an illness and did not practice Friday, the latest development as the quarterback prepares for the Super Bowl seattle seahawks.

Coach Mike Vrabel confirmed Meyer was unavailable during the limited time available to reporters at the start of practice and missed the game. Meyer was limited to practice a day earlier with a shoulder injury. Vrabel said those two issues kept him out of action on Friday.

However, Meyer was at the team facility and was able to attend team meetings. The coach said Meyer responded “well” after Thursday’s practice, did some throwing drills and would have practiced on Friday if not for an illness.

Vrabel reiterated that he is not concerned about Meyer’s future availability.

“No. We’ve had a lot of people get sick in the last month or six weeks,” Vrabel said. “Again, trying to do what’s best for the players and the team. And trying to take care of the players (and) not spreading things. But we’ve been trying to figure that out over the last six weeks.”

Friday was the team’s final practice in Massachusetts before heading to Santa Clara. californiaSuper Bowl week begins.

Meyer said Thursday that his focus is on being ready in time for the Super Bowl.
