Sonipat, Oct 8 (IANS) “Few young people, if at all in the country, are even interested in entering public life. However, if you go out to metro cities, tier-II, tier-III cities, and rural India, there is a passion to get involved in the process, and people are not involved in elections, and may be interested to enter public life,” said Sachin, member of Rajasthan Assembly. Pilot said in the Jindal Leadership Series Lecture on the theme ‘Gen Z, Politics Click, Share and Lead’.
“Globally, there is a slight retreat from professional politics. It’s a very interesting comparison in terms of democracies, unlike a country like the United States, where entering public life, including as highly accomplished professionals, is something that many people aspire to,” Pilot said.
Sachin Pilot is the General Secretary of the Congress Party; Member, Congress Working Committee, Member of Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, former Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan and former Union Minister of Government of India. At the age of 26, he was the youngest member of Parliament when he won his first election in 2004 from Dausa parliamentary constituency in Rajasthan.

Touching on the importance of diversity, Pilot said, “The really important thing is to become an adult with tolerance and acceptance of different ideas, and where you can make a difference.
