Parliament on Thursday passed the Atomic Energy Bill, with the Rajya Sabha giving its nod to legislation that seeks to open up the tightly controlled civil nuclear sector to private participation.
The Upper House passed the Sustainable Use and Advancement of Atomic Energy to Transform India (Peace) Bill by voice vote. It was passed in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for the Department of Atomic Energy, said nuclear is a reliable 24×7 power supply source, which is not the case with other renewable energy options.
He stressed that there will be no compromise with the security apparatus.
Responding to the discussion on the bill, Singh rejected the fears of radiation and said that till now no report has been received to the public of any danger related to radiation.
