Parliament announced the new committee compositions; Major appointments in 24 panels

New Delhi, 1 October (IANS) Lok Sabha Secretariat has issued updated composition of 24 parliamentary permanent committees effective from 26 September.

These committees, which play an important role in legislative inspection and policy reviews, include members of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and include in important areas including Commerce, Defense, Education, Health and Finance.

In notable appointments, Nishikant Dubey has been nominated as the chairman of the committee on communication and information technology, while Shashi Tharoor will be the head of the committee in foreign affairs. The defense committee will be chaired by Radha Mohan Singh, and Basavaraj Bomai will lead the committee on labor, textiles and skill development.

In an important step, two selected committees have been formed to examine major legislative bills. Bajiant Panda has been appointed as the Chairman of the Select Committee on the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill, 2025, while Tejasvi Surya will lead the selection committee on the Bill, 2025.

The committee will be chaired by the committee on the finance, and the committee of agriculture, animal husbandry and food processing will be led by Charanjit Singh Channi.

Kanimozhi Karunanidhi has been assigned a committee on consumer affairs, food and public distribution, and PC Mohan will be the head of the committee on social justice and empowerment.

Other major appointments include Tiruchi Shiva, science and technology, environment, forests and Bhubaneswar for climate change for the committee of industry and Sanjay Kumar Jha for transport, tourism and culture.

Professor Ram Gopal Yadav will lead the committee on health and family welfare, while Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy will preside over the residence and urban affairs.

The railway committee will be chaired by CM Ramesh, and Rajiv Pratap will be the head of the committee on Rudy water resources.

Azad Kirti Jha will lead chemicals and fertilizers, and Saptagiri Shankar Meteor will oversee rural development and panchayati raj.

Anurag Singh Thakur has been appointed as the chairman of the committee on coal, mines and steel.

These appointments reflect a wide representation in parties and regions, strengthening the commitment of Parliament for inclusive and effective governance through committee-based discussions.
