Vasaga Beach is a famous Provincial park Completely within the boundaries of the municipality, but now the Ontario government wants to eliminate some parkland in the city as the opponents argue that the proposal sets a dangerous example.
“This beautiful white sand beach is the heart and lungs of our community,” Vasaga Beach Brian Smith said referring to the world’s longest freshwater beach.
He told Citynues that the transfer of ownership of about 60 hectares of sand from the rights of the provincial government is a historical wrong.
Smith said, “Province came in the 60s and the 70s and created a group of land here. They dropped four-storey, five-storey hotels down. They tore the cottage court.”
During a trip in spring, Ontario Premier Dug Ford announced Investment of $ 38 million The beach redevelops and some Parkland “to return with the situation that it is a public beach to enjoy it all.”
To allow for the transfer of land, the Ford government needs to change the laws. Critics said that change is a reason to worry.
Jarvis Strong, a spokesman at the Escorpment Corridor Alliance, said, “There is no doubt in our brain that once it has been done once, when it is an example to be able to do so in a park or protected area,” Jarvis Strong, a spokesman of the Escripment Corridor Alliance, explained the city.
The group did not express protests to bring more tourists, but was expressed concern about matching the provincial government’s ability to protect wildlife and other environmental characteristics.
Asked about concerns, a spokesperson, protection and parks of the Ministry of Environment environment strongly disagreed.
The statement said, “The proposed changes … Vasaga Beach are specific to the provincial park. To be clear, no change will be made beyond considering them … and any claim is otherwise clearly false,” the statement says.
Vasaga WaterSports owner Sean Talbot – a business that rents jet ski, said that most of the Parkland should have some growth.
He said, “For the lands behind the beach, I think they are low. There is an overnight camp on Sable Beach. We have no camping facilities here on the beach and we have a 14 -km provincial park,” he said.
Smith said the beach should be protected, but also developed.
“If it was somewhere else in the world, it will be treated very differently and I think this government receives it. I know that our municipality receives it,” he said.
The land transfer is expected to be in the decline and the city will begin a process to determine the future of the property.
