Bank of the West:

A 15-year-old Palestinian boy riding a bicycle stabbed two Israeli security personnel at a checkpoint in the occupied West Bank on Wednesday before being shot dead, police said.

The attack occurred at around 8:15 a.m. (0615 GMT) at a tunnel checkpoint south of Jerusalem when the teenager arrived on his bicycle, police said in a statement.

“When security forces at the border crossing tried to check on him, the terrorist pulled out a knife and started stabbing people at the scene,” police said.

“An armed vigilante immediately engaged the terrorists, while IDF troops on the scene responded with precise artillery fire, neutralizing the terrorists.”

A female soldier and a civilian armed guard were injured in the stabbing, police said, adding that their injuries were “mild to moderate.”

Police later declared the attacker dead.

The official Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that security forces “bleeded the Palestinian teenager to death” at the checkpoint.

The knife attack came a day after a 12-year-old Palestinian boy was shot and killed by Israeli border police in a refugee camp in Israeli-annexed East Jerusalem.

Rami Hamdan al-Halhuli, 12, suffered a fatal gunshot wound during a clash between residents of the Shuafat refugee camp and police, who said the child fired fireworks at them.

Hundreds of additional police officers have been deployed in East Jerusalem’s Old City since the start of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan on Monday.
