Israeli forces shot dead a 13-year-old Palestinian boy during a raid in the occupied West Bank, the official Palestinian news agency Wafa reported on Saturday, and the Israeli military said it was reviewing the incident.
Wafa reported that confrontations broke out with Israeli forces in the town of Qabadia, south of the city of Jenin, during a pre-dawn military attack. The Israeli military said some Palestinian gunmen opened fire on Israeli troops, who fired back.
The military said it then received reports that a Palestinian minor had been killed.
“The circumstances of the incident are under review,” it said in a statement to Reuters.
Wafa said the director of Jenin Al-Raqi Hospital, Fawaz Hamad, confirmed the teen’s death.
The West Bank, one of the territories where Palestinians are seeking to establish a state, has seen an increase in violence in the area even before the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza broke out in October, and has since continued with frequent Israeli attacks and Violence in the West Bank continues to escalate amid Palestinian street attacks.
