Pakistan terror attack kills 7 soldiers, 2 officers

Six terrorists launched multiple suicide attacks on a security checkpoint in the North Waziristan tribal region bordering Afghanistan on Saturday, killing at least seven Pakistan Army soldiers, including two officers, the military said. .

A lieutenant colonel and a captain were killed along with five soldiers. All six terrorists who attacked the checkpoint in Mir Ali area were killed.

According to the ISPR statement, after the troops foiled the initial intrusion attempt, the terrorists rammed a vehicle filled with explosives into the post and subsequently launched multiple suicide bombings.

During the ensuing clearance operation, the troops effectively engaged six terrorists and killed them all.

However, Lieutenant Colonel Syed Kashif Ali and Captain Mohammad Ahmed Badal were killed in a fierce exchange of fire, the statement said.

The military’s media wing said a clearance operation was underway to eliminate other terrorists in the area.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur condemned the attack and expressed condolences over the soldier’s death.

According to the annual security report released by the Center for Research and Security Studies, 789 terrorist attacks and counter-terrorism operations occurred in Pakistan in 2023, resulting in 1,524 violent deaths and 1,463 injuries, a six-year high.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan are the main centers of violence, accounting for more than 90% of all deaths and 84% of attacks, including terrorism and security force operations.
