Pakistan has suffered a large-scale financial loss after the closure of its airspace in Indian-plated aircraft, according to a statement by Pakistan in the National Assembly, Pakistan airports (PAAs) have suffered a loss of more than Rs 1,240 crore (PKR 4.1 billion) in just two months.
According to Dawn, Islamabad claimed that in vengeance of India’s suspension of Indus Waters Treaty on 23 April, from April 24, when Pakistan withdrew overflight permission for all Indian-regional aircraft and Indian carriers, ownership or leased.
However, the step was economically back. PAA revenue affects about 100-150 Indian aircraft from overfalling charges between April 24 and 30 and reduces Pakistan’s transit air traffic by about 20 percent according to the morning.
The Pakistani Defense Ministry accepted a financial blow, but tried to justify it, saying “sovereignty and national defense take precedence on economic views.” Officials also claimed that such measures were issued through notice to Airman for “strategic and diplomatic” reasons.
According to the Ministry’s own data, the average daily overflight revenue of the PAA in 2019 was $ 508,000, compared to $ 760,000 in 2025, which means that the ban of Pakistan is now more during the previous deadlock, Dawn said.
Currently, Pakistan’s airspace is open to all except Indian airlines and aircraft, expanded twice with the ban and now lasts until the last week of August.
Indian carriers remain unaffected on other international routes, while Pakistani Airlines are still barred from entering Indian airspace.
After the Pakistan-provided terrorist attack on 22 April, the deadlock of the airspace began in Pahgam, Jammu and Kashmir, killing 26 people. In response, India banned all Pakistani-powered, owned or leased aircraft, including military flights, from entering the Indian sky from 30 April.
Civil Aviation Minister Muralidhar Mohol said that NOTAM, who banned Pakistani aircraft from entering Indian airspace, has been extended to August 23, 2025, cited “prevalent security protocols and strategic views”. (AI)
