Max Ojomoah will become “Billy No Mets” to ensure he is ready for his debut at the Allianz Stadium when England face argentina On Sunday.
Ozomoh only found out on Friday that he would win his second cap after Fraser Dingwall’s side strain forces midfield changes It has been deployed along with Henry Slade and Bath Centre.
His father Steve will be watching from the stands. Who won 12 England caps from 1994-98 But could not make his test debut against United States in Washington in July.
First called up to a senior squad by Eddie Jones in 2021, the 25-year-old, described as an “elite level attacker” by defense coach Richard Wigglesworth, has had to show patience in his Twickenham forward.
Now that it has arrived, he insists it is time to deliver it.
“I had the same thing for my Premiership debut with Bath – I felt like I’d been fighting for ages and then I got into the team,” Ozomoh said.
“I felt like I took to it like a duck to water because I waited so long and I saw the process in my mind. I hope it’s the same here.
“I’ve been waiting for this moment. I’ve been to a lot of camps. I’ve trained against the best in Bath and England and now I’ve got the chance to play against the best.
“When I heard I was in I was very excited but then I realized I needed to get myself in the right mental state to play.
“Normally, if you know you’re playing on the weekend, you’ve got time from Monday to Saturday to get ready. This time it was, ‘Okay, it’s Friday, let’s go.’ I’m happy to be here, but I need to perform now.
“Really the boys won’t watch me. I’ll be in my room – no Billy guys. There are some good rugby games so I’ll watch them and I’ve got some clips which I’ve asked an analyst to get for me.
“I’m a bit of a nerd when it comes to analyzing the opposition, so I’ll study them and make my notes and mentally prepare for the game.”
Maro Itoje noted Ojomoah’s “swagger” around the camp as he backed the Test newbie to shine against Argentina and that composure is essential for England’s new inside center back if he is to perform.
“I’m very comfortable with myself and I don’t let emotions dictate my performance,” Ozomoh said.
“It’s the game of rugby, 15 on 15. I think there are certain patterns that keep repeating themselves so I just try and stay as level as possible.
“If that’s what swagger is about then fine, I get it, but it’s not something I try and strive for. I try and enjoy the game and stay level headed through it.”
