The Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry on Thursday said more than 600 kilometers of cycle tracks have been developed in 100 smart cities, while more than 76,000 CCTV surveillance cameras have been installed so far.

Under the Smart City Mission, 6,855 “Smart Classrooms” and 40 digital libraries have been developed. Additionally, over 50 lakh solar and LED streetlights have been installed and over 89,000 km of underground power cables have been constructed.

The ministry said the special purpose vehicles are developing around 8,000 multi-sector projects worth over Rs 1.7 lakh crore in these 100 cities, while 6,650 projects worth Rs 1.32 lakh crore have been completed till January 15 this year.

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs released the data on smart city projects at a time when the mission deadline is about to end in June this year.

The Smart Cities Mission was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2015 to promote cities that provide core infrastructure, clean and sustainable environment and provide a quality of life to its citizens through the application of “smart solutions”. Provide decent quality.

The ministry said 674 economic infrastructure projects have been completed and another 263 are under implementation with a total investment of over Rs 13,800 crore, a move that will position smart cities as growth hubs that will attract investments. Speaking to reporters at the Smart Cities India Expo, Mission Director Kunal Kumar said the integration of intelligent traffic management systems with monitoring systems has improved road safety and added that more than 76,000 CCTV surveillance cameras have been installed in 100 smart cities. He said that as part of promoting urban mobility, these 100 cities have completed around 1,300 smart mobility projects and 383 projects are nearing completion.

“The total investment in the development of smart mobility projects is more than Rs 40,000 crore.

“More than 2,500 kilometers of smart roads have been developed with universal access, utility channels and proper signage. More than 7,500 new buses, including more than 2,000 electric buses, have been purchased. More than 600 km of cycle tracks have been developed in 100 smart cities under the mission,” the ministry said in a statement.

Furthermore, intelligent transportation management systems have been implemented and monitored through integrated command and control centers that are improving traffic operations, enforcing traffic violations and improving travel times.

308 e-health centers and clinics have been developed and 255 health ATMs have been installed in smart cities. The statement said the implementation of smart infrastructure projects such as 600 smart energy and 1,250 water and sanitation projects has been completed. As part of developing vibrant public spaces, more than 1,377 projects are being developed across 100 smart cities, including the development of 180 waterfront projects across 47 cities.

In addition, 170 projects focusing on cultural heritage have been implemented, and more than 200 markets have been redeveloped in 68 cities.

At least 155 environmental sensors have been installed and more than 5,300 personnel and volunteers have been trained for disaster response.

Recognizing the need for collaboration/partnership with the private sector to bring efficiency, 186 Public-Private-Partnership projects have been completed and 20 projects are in progress with a total investment of approximately Rs 11,000 crore.
