The Times of India reported that many passengers were disappointed due to long delays, limited communication from the airline and last-minute gate changes. Some passengers with onward international connections were also forced to cancel their tickets and book alternative flights at higher prices.
A source told the newspaper that the delay was due to unspecified “operational reasons”.
The flight, 6E-137, was scheduled to depart at 5 pm and reach Bengaluru at 6:40 pm. Vijayaraghavan Venugopal, whose wife was on the plane, told TOI that passengers first received a message just before 5pm saying the departure had been pushed to 7:15pm – by which time most passengers were already at the airport.
According to him, another message around 7 pm shifted the departure to 8 pm, followed by an announcement instructing passengers to proceed to Gate 9. At around 8:15, the staff informed passengers that the flight would now take off at 9:15.
Later, at 9:45 pm, a senior IndiGo employee reportedly told passengers that boarding would begin at 10:05 pm. Venugopal told TOI that the flight finally took off at 11:05 pm and landed in Bengaluru at 12:20 am.
The report said no official explanation was given to passengers during the entire delay. Some passengers speculated that a crew member or pilot had fallen ill, while others believed that the arriving plane had been delayed.
