Kirkby residents have complained that several signs at the nearby M58 junction spell their town’s name as “Kirby” rather than “Kirby”.
A woman named Kim Bradshaw, 22, noticed the misspelling while driving through the intersection.
“I think it’s a joke really,” he told the BBC’s Local Democracy Reporting Service. “I think it’s outrageous. These are mistakes that should not be made and should be changed effective immediately.”
βIt really doesn’t look good in our city that people are living and working here, and we get signs that aren’t even spelled correctly.β
“The funniest thing is that there is a sign right in front of it spelling it correctly,” one resident wrote on the social media group.
Another said: βI came from Kirkby 55 years ago but it still amazes me when people spell it without the K.β
One resident said it was “shameful” that “the council can’t get the name right”.
Independent Sefton Council and Liverpool City Council have been contacted, but the BBC reports that plans to fix the errors are underway.
