OPSEU says that assistant employees in Ontario colleges vote to authorize the strike

The union, representing thousands of assistant employees in Ontario colleges, says the workers have voted to authorize the strike.

Ontario Public Service Employees Union Says in a news release The members voted 77.3 percent to authorize the strike, if necessary, “safe respect on the bargaining table” and entitled to workers to secure a contract.

It says that the vote arms the bargaining team with a historic strike mandate as it goes back to the table for reconciliation negotiations on Wednesday.

The college’s employer council, the province’s publicly funded colleges, the bargain agent, did not respond to the strike authority votes when asked immediately.

The union, which also represents the faculty in Ontario colleges, said last month that 10,000 colleges faculty and employees have either been allowed to leave or from last year, hundreds of programs are expected to cancel their jobs and lose their jobs between suspension.

A mediated faculty contract between the Union and the Employer Council released last month stated that the federal government’s 2024 cap on international students caused a dramatic decline in enrollment and tuition revenue.
