In the complex scenario of law and order of Jammu and Kashmir, some names command this honor and praise that Vidhi Kumar Birdi. Currently serving as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for Kashmir, Mr. Burdi has created a reputation as a firm and visionary officer – which is not only with rights, but also with an unwavering commitment to sympathy, dedication and justice.
Over the years, he has served in some of the most challenging areas and assignments, and his career has been marked by a fine understanding of professionalism, strategic skills and socio-political sensitivity of the field. Under his leadership, Kashmir has seen a strong stand against the dangers for public peace, maintaining law enforcement mechanisms, community-focused policing and people’s rights and dignity.
On an individual note, my relationship with the Bird comes back in his tenure as SSP Kupwara, one of the most sensitive districts in North Kashmir. My father was respected to serve as his reader during that time – a role that allowed him to see the caliber of this remarkable officer for the first time. He often talks about the integrity, humility and tireless dedication to public service of Shri Burdi. Whether it was a quick redressal of public grievances or his unwavering focus on duty, Mr. Burdi stood outside as a beach of honesty and professionalism.
Mr. Burdi has played an important role in ensuring peace in the region, navigating Kashmir’s complications with composer and clarity. What really separates him is his reach to the public. Whether at the time of stress or calm, he has always been at the forefront, which addresses the concerns of ordinary Kashmiris with honesty and urgency. Their open door approaches and the desire to hear have helped to create confidence between people and police, reinforcing public belief in law enforcement institutions.
Those who have worked with them often not only highlight their operating capacity, but also have human touch. He is inspired by a real concern for the welfare of others. Officers and citizens are equally heard and respected in their presence – a rare and invaluable quality that continues to define their leadership style till date.
As IGP Kashmir, Vidhi Kumar Birds pursue this legacy. In an era marked by uncertainty and transition, he remains a stable guiding force – leading the area to more stability, safety and progress. Their leadership inspires not only in uniform, but also countless citizens who lead to leaders for long.
At a time when public trusts in institutions are more important than ever, officials like Berdi remind us that integrity, dedication and compassion remain the real identity of public service.
