Bhopal, Nov 21 (IANS) Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh on Friday criticized the state government for not maintaining protocol for former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar after his arrival at the Bhopal airport, calling it a “blatant violation”.
Dhankhar was in Bhopal to attend the unveiling of the new book of senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) functionary and Saha Sarkaryavah Manmohan Vaidya at Rabindra Bhawan.
After Dhankhar reached Bhopal, Digvijay Singh told media persons that he was surprised to know that not a single minister of the state went to receive him at Raja Bhoj airport.
He said, “It is unfortunate that Jagdeep Dhankhar, who fought a one-sided battle for BJP and RSS in Rajya Sabha, was not welcomed by any minister at Bhopal airport. This is a blatant violation of VIP protocol. The Chief Minister (Mohan Yadav) should personally welcome him.”
The former chief minister said the person who was the Vice President was not an ordinary person, adding, “If Jagdeep Dhankhar was not worthy of that post, then why was he given such a prestigious post?”
Digvijay further said that he also requested to meet Dhankhar to know his well-being during his visit to Bhopal; However, he was not allowed to meet the former Vice President.
Digvijay said, “My sympathies are with Dhankhar as he is a prominent farmer leader and former Speaker of the Upper House.”
In his first public event after resigning as Vice President of India in July 2025 due to health concerns, Jagdeep Dhankhar attended a book release event in Bhopal on Friday.
The 74-year-old leader, who stepped down on July 21 citing medical advice after a cardiac event earlier in the year, unveiled “Hum Aur Ye Vishwa” (We and This World), written by senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) functionary and Saha Sarkaryavah Manmohan Vaidya.
A large crowd of RSS ideologues, intellectuals and BJP-RSS supporters turned out for the event held at the sprawling Kushabhau Thackeray Convention Centre, marking Dhankhar’s return to public life after months of silence following his sudden exit from the constitutional post.
