Imphal, Oct 26 (IANS) Security forces in Manipur on Sunday arrested six militants of various banned outfits, including a woman cadre, and recovered some arms and ammunition from different districts. The officers provided this information.
A police official said the arrested terrorists belonging to different extremist groups – Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) and People’s Liberation Army (PLA) – were arrested from Kakching, Imphal West and Thoubal districts.
He said the hard-core militants were involved in various crimes, including intimidation, extortion and extortion of donations from people, government employees, contractors and others.
Some Aadhaar cards, incriminating documents, a car and several mobile phones were recovered from the possession of the arrested guerrillas.
The Manipur Police official said security forces are continuing search operations and area dominance in border, mixed-populated and sensitive areas of the districts.
According to the official, a total of 115 checkpoints/checkpoints were established in various districts of Manipur, both in the hill and valley areas, to prevent untoward and illegal activities of enemy elements and suspicious vehicles.
He said security forces have provided escort to a large number of vehicles carrying essential commodities on the Imphal-Jiribam National Highway (NH-37).
Strict security measures are taken at all sensitive locations, and a security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches to ensure free and safe movement of vehicles.
Manipur Police urged people not to believe in rumors and be cautious of false videos. “The authenticity of circulation of any baseless video, audio clip etc. can be confirmed from the central control room.
Apart from this, there is also a possibility of many fake posts being circulated on social media. It is hereby cautioned that uploading and circulating such fake posts on social media will attract legal action with consequences.” The police authority also appealed to the concerned people to immediately return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or the nearest security force post.
