stab one high school in the center North Carolina One student died and another was injured Tuesday, officials said.
Forsyth County Sheriff Bobby Kimbrough said officers at North Forsyth High School in Winston-Salem responded to a call for assistance shortly after 11 a.m.
“We responded to a dispute between two students, and said there was a loss of life,” Kimbrough said at a news conference.
In an email to families and staff, Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School Superintendent Don Phipps confirmed that one student had died and another was injured.
Kimbrough did not answer questions at the news conference, citing the ongoing investigation. No details about possible charges were discussed. Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Christa Karcher later said there was a stabbing and the injured man was treated at a hospital and released.
Governor Josh Stein called what happened “shocking and horrifying” in a message on the social platform X and said he was praying for all students and their loved ones.
Phipps, who started her post just last week, said at the news conference that it was “any teacher’s worst nightmare. We hurt when our students get hurt, and that’s the last hurt we can possibly feel.”
North Forsyth High School will be closed Wednesday and a crisis team will be in place when staff and students return, she said.
