Jaipur, Oct 27 (IANS) One person was killed and 30 others were injured, ten of whom are in critical condition, in a tragic road accident in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur district on Monday. Officials gave this information here.

The accident occurred around 8 am near Barbers Dhani on Osian-Chadi Road, when a private bus carrying around 40 passengers collided with a car coming from the opposite direction.

According to the police, the bus was going from Osian to Chadi, while the car was going towards Jodhpur. The collision was so strong that the bus overturned and the car was completely shattered.

One person died on the spot and 30 passengers in both vehicles were injured. The deceased has been identified as Bhanwar, a businessman from Bhinmal (Jalore), who was going to Jaipur with his family after Diwali celebrations. On receiving information, Osian police reached the accident site and with the help of local people pulled out the injured from the debris.

All the injured were taken to Osian sub-district hospital, from where ten seriously injured people were referred to Mathuradas Mathur Hospital in Jodhpur for further treatment.

Naib Tehsildar Chhatar Singh Rajpurohit said that there were seven people in the car – Bhanwar (deceased), his sons Arvind, Vinay and Mahendra, along with Mahendra’s wife Usha, driver Dilip Kumar and Santosh Dave. Dilip, Mahendra, Usha and Santosh suffered serious injuries and are being treated in Jodhpur. Six bus passengers have also been referred to Jodhpur.

They have been identified as Pooja (26), Kishna Ram (45), Sanjay, Nain Singh (62), Bhoja Ram (60) and Ganga Ram (65), residents of nearby villages in Jodhpur district.

Eyewitnesses said that as soon as the bus overturned, screams echoed in the area. Hearing the sound of the collision, local people reached the spot and helped in the rescue work.

Police are investigating the exact cause of the collision, which is suspected to have been caused by speeding on a winding stretch of road.
