Shimla, Oct 10 (IANS) Himachal Pradesh Police on Friday arrested a man for allegedly sexually assaulting a 25-year-old woman on the pretext of treatment at his Ayurvedic clinic in Solan town this week.
The woman alleges that during the consultation, accused Ram Kumar held her hand and asked about sexual health.
When she shared her concerns, he assured her of complete treatment and showed her a medical book.
Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh told the media that the woman had lodged a complaint at the women’s police station on October 8.
The woman had gone to the clinic located near the old bus stand on October 7.
However, Kumar allegedly insisted on examining her private parts, which she refused.
Despite her objection, Kumar allegedly sexually assaulted the woman on the pretext of medical checkup.
The Superintendent of Police said a team from the State Forensic Science Laboratory inspected the crime scene and collected evidence.
“Based on the victim’s statement, forensic findings and technical evidence, the police arrested Ram Kumar,” he said.
In the complaint given to the police, the victim told that she was ill for a long time.
On October 7, she went to the clinic for treatment.
After asking about his address, Kumar made him sit for examination.
The woman told that the doctor held her hand and started pressing her veins.
Later, Kumar started asking her about sexual problems.
After that, Kumar assured him that he would cure him 100 percent and also showed him the related book.
Expressing surprise over the incident, the brother of the alleged accused described the allegations against his elder brother as troubling for the family.
He said his 80-year-old brother, who has grandchildren, is a respected Ayurvedic doctor in the state.
Terming the incident a conspiracy, he urged the police to consider whether an octogenarian was capable of committing such an act.
