Former President and head of the high-level committee on ‘One Nation, One Election’ Ram Nath Kovind held fresh discussions with retired judges and industry leaders on holding simultaneous elections, an official statement said on Wednesday. Is.

In his fourth round of consultations, Kovind met Justice Dilip Bhosale, former Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court, and Justice Rajendra Menon, former Chief Justice of Delhi High Court, who gave their considered views on the subject, the statement said.

“Initiating discussions with financial and economic experts, Kovind also interacted with ASSOCHAM President and SpiceJet Airlines Chairman and Managing Director Ajay Singh, who was also accompanied by ASSOCHAM Secretary General and Assistant Secretary General,” it said.

Singh expressed his views in detail on the economic benefits of holding simultaneous elections in the country.

Earlier, Kovind had met former Chief Justice of Madras High Court Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari, former Chief Justice of Delhi High Court Justice Gorla Rohini and former CEC Sushil Chandra.

Separately, the committee has received nearly 21,000 suggestions from the public, of which 81 per cent have “confirmed” the idea of ​​simultaneous elections, an official statement on Sunday said.

Suggestions were also sought from 46 political parties.

It said, “So far suggestions have been received from 17 political parties.”

Various opposition parties, including Congress and TMC, have opposed the idea of ​​holding simultaneous elections.

On January 5, the panel had issued a public notice inviting suggestions from citizens to make appropriate changes in the existing legal-administrative framework for holding simultaneous elections in the country.

The Kovind-led committee, formed in September last year, held its third meeting on Sunday.

“A total of 20,972 responses were received, of which 81 per cent supported the idea of ​​simultaneous elections,” the committee had said after its meeting.
