Kent Police said one person has been arrested and detained in connection with the incidents.
Homes on Glencoe Road, Wharfedale Road and Malham Drive have also been evacuated, and Thanet District Council is currently managing the welfare of residents at Hartsdown Leisure Centre.
An Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team of Ministry of Defence A cordon has been cordoned off at the scene, with Kent Fire and Rescue also in attendance.
Footage on social media showed roads being taped off and several police officers at the scene. Several residents appeared to be gathered in a group and waiting behind the tape.
Police issued a statement around 9:30 pm on Wednesday night.
Thanet councilor Jack Packman has asked affected residents to seek help. “If you have family or friends with whom you can stay for a short term, you are advised to do so.
“However, if this is not possible, Thanet District Council has set up an evacuation point at Hartsdown Leisure Centre, where help and support is available.”
Mr Packman said police were still investigating the incident and there was no cause for concern at this stage.
