Bengaluru, November 22 (IANS) Attacking the Congress over the leadership tussle in Karnataka, Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly R. Ashok said on Saturday that “one group in the Congress is working to keep Siddaramaiah as the Chief Minister and the other group is working to remove him from power.”

He also demanded that the Congress high command should clearly state who is the Chief Minister of Karnataka.

Speaking to reporters after the Vande Mataram ceremony held in front of his office in Bengaluru, senior BJP leader Ashok alleged that a group within the Congress is working to retain Siddaramaiah as CM and another group within the grand old party is working to remove him from power.

He said, “One team wants DK Shivakumar to become the CM and the other team is making strategies and plotting to stop it.”

BJP leader Ashok said, “DK Shivakumar’s supporting MLAs are agitating demanding that he be made the Chief Minister. This fight has reached its final stage. If Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge do not take a decision, the government cannot work. Officials will not work. The administration is in a coma.”

He also alleged that the administrative machinery of the state has become inactive due to the ongoing tussle over the post of Chief Minister.

He said the state government is “dead” due to the ongoing fight between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.

BJP leader Ashok claimed that the Congress high command is not concerned about solving the many problems of citizens, farmers and students in the state.

During this, he said that criminal activities are increasing, farmers are taking to the streets in protest and the political situation in Karnataka is worsening.

BJP leader Ashok said, “Nobody knows who the chief minister is. Rahul Gandhi is a weak leader and weak leadership is visible in the entire state. Amidst these power games, the people of Karnataka are suffering. Therefore, the Congress high command should immediately announce its decision on the chief minister’s post.”

He also said that two Congress MLAs are in jail and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar had to go to jail to seek votes for the post of CM.

He commented, “It is pathetic that the Congress Party has reached such a state.”

He also said that Congress is unable to keep its MLAs under control and face pressure from the opposition.

BJP leader Ashok said, “If they say they cannot handle the pressure from the opposition, it only means that our (BJP’s) opposition is strong. We are here to keep the government under control, and we are doing it effectively.”

He said, “Deputy CM Shivakumar is speaking under pressure. He has indirectly said that Siddaramaiah is a promise breaker. Siddaramaiah will be branded as a person who does not keep his word.”
