A man has been arrested after a boy was injured in an attack at a college in Reading,

The force said the search was “ongoing” with armed officers at the scene, and members of the public were advised to avoid the area. According to local media reports, a police helicopter is circling the area as the search continues.
An automated message on the Reading College phone line said it did not appear the student was in a life-threatening condition. The message said: “We are currently dealing with an incident at Reading College where a student has suffered injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.
“His family has been informed. The police have been informed and they are present.”
“Please be assured that all actions have been taken to ensure the safety of students.”
Eyewitnesses told local media that the college was on “lockdown”. It is believed to have since reopened and a number of police cars and officers are still at the scene.
A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: “We are aware of an assault in Kings Road, Reading.
“A boy has suffered injuries and is being treated for injuries. Search activity is ongoing, supported by armed officers, and there remains a visible police presence. We advise members of the public to avoid the area at this time while officers work rapidly to resolve the situation.
“We will provide an update when we are in a position to do so.”
In a subsequent update, the force said: “We can confirm that officers have made an arrest in relation to this incident. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and is being treated in hospital.
“Officers are still in the area, so if you are concerned or have any questions, please feel free to speak to them. Contrary to media reports, this incident has not been classified as a major incident by the force.”
