The Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), an initiative of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Domestic Trade (DPIIT), has launched ticketing services for passengers traveling on the Chennai Metro Rail Corporation Limited. The Chennai Metro has become the first metro service to be offered on the ONDC network.
Kochi Metro, Kanpur Metro, Pune Metro and other metro services are also gearing up to join the network, ONDC said in a statement after launching the service in Chennai. Passengers traveling on the Chennai Metro can purchase “one-way” or “round-trip” tickets through apps such as “Rapido”, “Namma Yatri”, “redBus”, etc. currently available on the ONDC network.
The overall ticketing experience on the ONDC network is enabled by CMRL in partnership with its first sell-side technology partner, “Yaary”, the release said. “At ONDC, we believe in embracing innovation. Chennai Metro’s joining the open network is not just a milestone but a bold step towards revolutionizing public transport. From multi-modal integration to seamless integration of ancillary services, ONDC will redefine Mobility,” said T Koshy, MD and CEO, ONDC.
