The Tejas fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed during a display at the Dubai Air Show on Friday and the pilot lost his life.
Taking it to the X, the IAF earlier said, “A Tejas aircraft of the IAF met with an accident during aerial display at the Dubai Air Show today. The pilot sustained fatal injuries in the accident. The IAF deeply regrets the loss of life and property and stands strongly with the bereaved family in this hour of grief.”
It further said, “A Court of Inquiry is being constituted to determine the cause of the accident.”
The accident occurred during the biennial Dubai Air Show, one of the world’s largest aviation exhibitions.
There have been big announcements at the event this week. Notably, this is the second accident involving Tejas aircraft, the first accident took place near Jaisalmer in 2024. In March 2024, a Tejas fighter aircraft crashed in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, the first such accident in the 23-year history of the aircraft since its first test flight in 2001.
In such a situation, the pilot got out safely. LCA Tejas is a 4.5 generation, all-weather and multi-role combat aircraft. This aircraft has been designed as a multi-role aircraft capable of performing offensive air support, close combat and ground attack roles with ease.
It is also designed for land and sea operations. At the Dubai Air Show, India and Germany, on November 19, revived high-technology defense cooperation after nearly three decades, with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) signing a landmark contract with German state-backed sensor major Hensoldt.
