The 2025 Migration Advocacy and Media Awards honor the vital role of journalists, filmmakers, writers and content creators in shaping public perception and highlighting the journey of overseas Filipinos, no matter where they are in the world.
Santos said, “A Filipino program in the language in Canada, combined with English news broadcasts in the country, will make you think how do our stories matter in North America? But for a country whose strength is diversity, multiculturalism, Filipinos who choose to live in Canada still want news in their own language.”
“As a Canadian news organization, we will continue to share stories that matter to Filipinos in Canada while also monitoring important issues from our home country, the Philippines.”
OMNI News is one of 18 winners from 17 countries recognized for raising public awareness by chronicling the stories of the Filipino diaspora.
In addition to winning the award for Best TV Special Report, OMNI News Senior Manager Maryton Pacheco was also named Best Media Advocate at this year’s awards.
Another Canadian winner for Best Website is the Kababayan Multicultural Centre.
