Mayor Olivia Chow has reflected the first two years of his tenure in the office, saying that he is recommended to fix what he is broken and what matters. “
Chow was sworn in as the 66th mayor of Toronto on July 11, 2023, who became the first to lead Canada to lead Canada to lead the most populous city of Canada after defeating former deputy mayor Ana Belao and Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders. At that time, former NDP MP and previous city councilor promised to make a more care and affordable city.
When he took over the rank of post, the city was facing aging of public infrastructure amid a lack of budget of about 1 billion dollars, a housing strength crisis and other issues.
In an online post on SaturdayChow listed some of his achievements, including a new deal with the province to reverse the “Financial mess” in the city hall, claiming that it has freed “billions for Better City Services”. He pointed to a record number of cheap and rented controlled housing and increased investment in transit and free services across the city.
“If you know me, you know that I am inspired to fix things,” Write Chow. “I do not easily accept obstacles or delays. It takes determination and practicality to achieve things.”
Chow says that he is dedicated to getting a large picture of the basics correct and more economical and safe city “where people can thrive.”
Chow says, “With one and a half years in this tenure, I am advising to listen and act, always find a way forward. With hope and determination to improve our city, for all, to all,” Chow says.
The next municipal election is scheduled for October 26, 2026.
