Canada’s Penny Olexiaq withdrew from the upcoming World Aquatics Championship due to the issue of hideout under anti-doping rules, announced on social media on Friday.
The 25 -year -old Toronto native, Canadian’s most decorated female Olympian, said that the case “no restricted substance has been included” and said, “I have always been a clean athlete and will not comment any further at this time.”
Swimming Canada said Olexiaq was not approved, but was voluntarily withdrawn.
Swimming Canada CEO Suzanne Polys said that Olexiaq failed to fully maintain its hideout with world aquatics, but described it as an “administrative mistake”.
Polyes said in a statement, “We support her decision and believe that she is a clean athlete that has made an administrative mistake.” “This is a team-first decision, as it is not approved at this time, participating in the World Championship can potentially affect the team’s results if an anti-doping rule violation is determined.”
Polyes stated that athletes are responsible for adherence to anti-doping rules and submit timely filing to avoid restrictions.
He said, “Anti-doping rules are meant to ensure a level playground for all athletes, and we are committed to the enforcement and support of all doping rules mentioned in the Canadian anti-doping program, and through the World Aquatics and World Anti-Doping Agency,” he said.
The World Championship runs from 11 July in Singapore till 3 August.
