on sunday morning Japan A heated discussion began after the Los Angeles Dodgers’ announcement shohei ohtani Game 7 of the World Series begins.

By the time countryman Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave the final out, Tokyo Was jumping with joy.

“Today I am very proud to be Japanese,” said cab driver Seiichiro Okada, who pulled his car to the side of the road to watch the end. “To be able to see these giants in real time is just something else.”

Ohtani had two hits and pitched even, while Yamamoto earned World Series MVP after another stellar pitching performance as the Dodgers defeated them to repeat as champions. toronto blue jays 5-4 in 11 innings. Los Angeles fell behind 3–0 and 4–2 but rallied ahead with Miguel Rojas’ tiebreaking homer in the ninth inning and Will Smith’s tiebreaking homer in the 11th.

“I thought it was over for a second, but it was so good,” said Hiroshi Hoshi, who was clearly tearful.

Hoshi was one of a large crowd of baseball fans streaming across the street from the Tokyo Fish & Chips restaurant hub with several big screens, where the game was shown live.

After the Dodgers’ victory, people wearing Ohtani’s No. 17 jersey danced in the Hub. They were among millions of Japanese celebrating the Game 7 victory.

The Dodgers were heavy favorites in the World Series, but they received a tough test from the Blue Jays, including a game that went 18 innings and a blowout 3–1 victory in Game 6, forcing a winner-take-all showdown in Toronto.

Most Japanese were watching at home. Games 1 and 2 averaged 10.7 million viewers in Japan, and Game 7 was likely to eclipse that.

Baseball fans in Japan say they have watched every game, even those who came home after working night shifts. Delivery workers said they kept an eye on their trucks whenever possible.

Ohtani has been a star in amateur baseball-mad Japan, and his likeness is now everywhere here, including ads for sneakers, cosmetics, electronics, and more.

Fans are proud of his extraordinary two-way ability – he is one of the game’s best hitters and is also a dominant pitcher. But people also pay attention to his character, pointing to his easy-going and friendly demeanor in the dugout. He always seems to remember his Japanese roots, speaking in Japanese in interviews and addressing his fans.

His wife, former professional basketball player Mamiko, as well as their dog, Decoy, regularly make headlines. Their daughter, who was born earlier this year, is already big news, starting with Ohtani announcing the birth on Instagram with a photo of her tiny feet.

However, Yamamoto stole the show in the World Series. He pitched a rare complete game in the Game 2 victory, then won Games 6 and 7 with courageous, back-to-back performances that easily earned him Series MVP honors.

Kowa Minami, a waiter at the restaurant Hub that hosted the public demonstration, said he couldn’t depend on which team he was cheering for. Some customers were clearly rooting for the Blue Jays.

“But honestly, I like the Dodgers because they have Japanese players,” he said.

The Dodgers have impressed many people in Japan, including the Prime Minister Sanae TakaichiDuring a meeting with US President Donald Trump several days ago, he told reporters that the game was going on and so they watched together for a while.

“The Dodgers are winning,” he said.
