Hyderabad, Nov 7 (IANS) Eleven people from Telangana are among 270 Indian citizens brought back from Thailand after fleeing Myanmar following military raids on cyber crime hubs.
The Indian citizens reached Delhi on Thursday night by a special flight of the Indian Air Force (IAF).
The Telangana government said the group of 11 people was handed over to the Telangana Bhawan authorities in New Delhi after proper investigation and verification by the concerned central government officials.
Telangana government officials took immediate steps to provide them temporary accommodation. He also arranged for his visit to Hyderabad.
According to the state government, these people were trapped in a cyber crime camp in Myawaddy, Myanmar and returned home today.
These citizens are from districts like Hyderabad, Karimnagar and Warangal.
These rescued Indians were victims of an organized cyber fraud network that lured them with the promise of high-paying jobs.
He was later held captive and forced to engage in illegal online activities. An official statement said this repatriation is in continuation of earlier rescue operations conducted by the Government of India to bring back Indian nationals stranded in such fraudulent locations in the Myanmar-Thailand border area.
The Government of Telangana, through Telangana Bhawan, Delhi, in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs and other concerned agencies, has made all necessary arrangements to provide temporary accommodation, essential assistance and safe transportation back to Hyderabad.
Two special flights operated by the Indian Air Force airlifted 270 Indian nationals, including 26 women, from Chiang Mai in Thailand to Hindon airbase in Uttar Pradesh.
The men were among hundreds of international workers who were forced to leave when cyber scam centers operated from Myawaddy took advantage of Myanmar’s lax cyber infrastructure.
Indian investigative agencies reportedly collected details from these people about how they reached there and what activities they were participating in.
