Bhubaneswar, Nov 13 (IANS) The Odisha Energy Department on Thursday announced that the state will host the Global Energy Leaders Summit (GELS) 2025 in Puri from December 5-7.
The logo of the event, symbolizing the harmony between nature and innovation, was released on Thursday by Union Minister of State for Power and New and Renewable Energy Shripad Yesso Naik along with Odisha Deputy Chief Minister (Energy, Agriculture and Farmers Empowerment) Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, according to an official statement.
The official website for the summit www.gelsodisha2025.com was also launched on Thursday. It further said that the theme of the summit is “Powerful India: Adequacy, Balance, Innovation”.
These three interrelated priorities focus on ensuring adequate and efficient power, balancing ecology and economy, and promoting innovative solutions for the region.
GELS brings together Union and State Energy Ministers and Secretaries, policy makers, innovators, researchers and industry leaders to advance India’s shared energy future.
The summit will be the beginning of the process of establishing a platform for dialogue between energy leaders from different states along with national and global leaders of the sector.
The summit will focus on meeting India’s growing energy demand and strengthening the reliability and security of supply, promoting sustainable development without compromising ecological imperatives, and accelerating the energy transition through leading technologies and digital tools.
The highlight of the summit will be to discuss the contemporary and future trends in the energy sector. Topics of discussion include small and modular nuclear plants, green hydrogen, digital security of the grid, etc.
The department also said in its official statement that this will be the first pan-India initiative of its kind. The concept has had considerable positive impact in other parts of the world, such as a platform for education ministers and secretaries in Latin America.
Speaking on the announcement, Union Minister Naik said, “Energy sufficiency is not just about meeting the demand but also ensuring reliability and resilience. GERLS will play a vital role in achieving Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of sustainability and cooperative federalism and achieving Net Zero by 2070 for India.”
He said the summit “demonstrates India’s commitment towards an innovation-driven, sustainable energy future.”
Energy ministers from other countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Bhutan have been invited and are expected to attend.
