Bhubaneswar, Nov 11 (IANS) Following the deadly blast in Delhi that claimed the lives of several civilians, Odisha Police has been put on high alert across the state, officials said on Tuesday. Briefing media persons, Odisha’s Additional Director General of Police (ADG) (Law and Order), Sanjay Kumar, said, “All police personnel have been directed to maintain tight vigil at important locations. A strict vigil has been maintained at important establishments, religious places and other communally sensitive areas across the state.” Enhanced surveillance has been imposed in Bhubaneswar and other major places. Preventive measures are being taken in coordination with national security agencies. “Though no specific intelligence related to Odisha has been received, the state police is fully prepared to deal with any situation,” Kumar said. Coastal security has been given priority, with special attention given to airports, temples and crowded public places. Special forces and equipment have been deployed to strengthen multi-layered security arrangements in Bhubaneswar, Puri and other districts. Security checks at entry points are being conducted using both manual and electronic devices, although no suspicious activity has been detected so far. Kumar said, “Odisha remains a peaceful state. We appeal to citizens not to believe in rumors or misinformation and rely only on official communication channels. The police is committed to the safety of every citizen and maintaining law and order across the state.” Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday directed Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) YB Khurania over phone to make elaborate security arrangements across the state. The Chief Minister advised Odisha Police to be on full alert in view of major public festivals attracting huge crowds, especially the ongoing famous Bali Yatra festival in Cuttack and other places in the State. Chief Minister Majhi also directed that security measures should be further tightened in all major cities and sensitive places across the state. Odisha Police has intensified security at important and sensitive places including the 12th century Jagannath temple in Puri, Hirakud Dam, railway stations and other major public places across the state. –IANS gyan/khaz
