Bhubaneswar, 6 October (IANS) Election Commission (ECI) on Monday announced the program for the by -election for the Nupada assembly seat, which was vacant on September 8 after the death of senior BJD leader and former minister Rajendra Dholakia.
Sharing the details about the pole schedule, Odisha Chief Electoral Commissioner (CEO), RS Gopalan said on Monday, “The Gazette notification for the by -election will be released on October 13. The last date for filing nominations is on 20 October, while the nomination will be investigated on 22.”
The last date for return of candidates is 24 October. Voting will be held on 11 November, and counting of votes will be held on 14 November.
All processes about the by -election will be completed by 16 November.
The CEO also announced that with the announcement of the by -election on Monday, the model code of conduct has come into force immediately in the entire district of Nupada. It also applies to the central government, agencies/PSUs located in the district.
Gopalan further stated that as per the ongoing special summary amendment of the election rolls in Nupada, the total number of voters is 2,48,256, including 1,22,103 male voters, 1,26,132 female voters and 21 transgender voters till 15 September.
The number of people with disabilities is 4,000 voters. Additionally, there are 2,007 voters at the age of 85 who are eligible to exercise their franchise from home. The special summary amendment will end on 7 October, and the final election roll will be published on 9 October.
The CEO of Odisha has announced that a total of 358 polling stations including 56 will be set up in Nupada Assembly Constituency for the upcoming by -elections.
Meanwhile, no polling station will have no more than 1,200 voters. Gopalan said that he has sufficient number of EVMs and VVPAT machines for the upcoming by -election in Nupada assembly constituency.
He said that it is mandatory for both independent candidates and political parties through television channels on three occasions during the publishing and campaign period of the previous criminal antidendants of candidates in newspapers. Webcasting will be held at all booths.
Meanwhile, the no-campne zone, which was 200 meters earlier around the booths, has reduced by 100 meters this time. Any model can complain about the C-Vigil app for violation of the code of conduct.
